Os Campiños mamoas

As in other similar formations, the mámoas are provided with mounds of earth and stones that mark their existence. The burial area is in the centre of the mound and the burial chambers are located underground, under large stones. It is common to find concentrations of several of these constructions, as in this case. In Os Campiños, some of the interiors have been excavated to better appreciate their importance and shape. Work in the area has been underway since the mid-1970s and it has been humanised and conditioned for a better tourist experience.
