San Xoán da Misarela hermitage

Imaxe por defecto
At the confluence of the San Xoán and Barbanza rivers, a renowned Franciscan convent was built in the Middle Ages, which we know today as the ruins of San Xoán da Misarela.
It is believed to have been founded by Saint Mauro, who sailed across the river in a stone boat while being pursued. During his escape, the saint received divine aid by filling the river with stones and boulders, allowing him to escape. This is the origin of the name of the Pedras River. Near the remains of the convent, there is a strategic medieval bridge over this riverbed, a cruciform petroglyph, and the famous stone boat of legend.
