Santiago do Deán´s church

Igrexa de Santiago do Deán
The Church of Santiago do Deán is one of the most outstanding examples of religious architecture in the Maritime Gothic style in A Pobra do Caramiñal. Its construction began in the late 14th century and was completed, after various phases and additions, in the 18th century.
There is talk of a castle belonging to the Dean of Santiago in this enclave, which was destroyed in the Irmandiña revolts (1467). Inside, the church has a single nave, a polygonal chapel, and seven other side chapels. It features valuable Baroque altarpieces (17th and 18th centuries), and the sculptures of Saint James the Pilgrim, Saint Mary, Saint Catherine of Alexandria, and Saints Peter and Paul stand out prominently on the façade. The church is surrounded by restored traditional dwellings and a cross.
