Fishing port of Ribeira

Porto pesqueiro de Ribeira
It is considered the most important coastal port in Spain. It moves more than 40 million kilos of catches a year through its modern fish market. Until the 17th century it did not have much importance in the region, but by the end of the 18th century it was already one of the most important fishing docks in Galicia.
Today more than 250 trawlers, purse seines, longliners and small fishing vessels are based in this port. Completely integrated into the urban area of Santa Uxía de Ribeira, its entire front is used as a promenade. The size and vitality of this port corresponds to the fact that the sea is undoubtedly the main economic base of the town.
