Neixón´s hill fort

The Neixón Castro is, without a doubt, one of the most significant fort complexes in the entire Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, comprised of two settlements located on the Punta Neixón peninsula: the Small Castro and the Large Castro.
The origin of the former dates back to the late Bronze Age, and excavations date back to the early 20th century, revealing the remains of circular constructions very characteristic of the early Iron Age. The Large Castro was occupied later, possibly after the Small Castro was abandoned, and formed a village protected by a series of defensive elements such as ditches and embankments. The complex combines three key elements: housing, metallurgy, and ritual spaces. Its importance is such that it was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2011.
