What is the Barbanza Arousa Association of Municipalities?

It is a local public supramunicipal entity, founded in 1974 to pool services among the municipalities that make up the Barbanza region (A Pobra do Caramiñal, Boiro, Rianxo, and Ribeira), located in the northern area of the Ría de Arousa (province of A Coruña).

In 2002, the Association shifted its focus to one of its main goals, tourism, implementing actions to consolidate Barbanza Arousa as a distinct, high-quality tourist destination within the national and international scene.

Today, Barbanza Arousa has strengthened its position as a destination, largely thanks to its promotion through collaboration and awareness-raising among the business sector and local population. This commitment is evident in the number of businesses that joined in 2023 and committed to meeting the quality standards set by the Comprehensive Spanish Tourism Quality System in Destinations (SICTED), reaching a total of 36 participating establishments—a figure expected to rise in the coming years, further boosting the Barbanza Arousa brand and traveler satisfaction.

What is Barbanza Arousa?

It is nature, tranquility, and quality.

Barbanza Arousa consists of four coastal towns inhabited by open and welcoming people who will make visitors feel right at home.

Its location, in the heart of the Galician Atlantic coast, combined with good transport infrastructure, makes the destination easily accessible. The fertile Ría de Arousa, which bathes these four municipalities, is internationally renowned for the outstanding quality of seafood and produce that defines its gastronomy.

Complemented by well-preserved natural heritage, it offers all kinds of outdoor activities in unique, wild landscapes such as the Corrubedo Sand Dunes and Carregal and Vixán Lagoons Natural Park, along with a wide array of beaches and hiking routes.

Thanks to an extensive network of cultural, ethnographic, and historical tourism resources, it provides a versatile, year-round offering suitable for all audiences. Universal Accessibility is integral to the tourist experience in Barbanza Arousa, ensuring that development goals allow everyone, regardless of their physical capabilities, to appreciate the valuable heritage of these lands.
